Gary Sheffield Tears Finger Tendon: Fantasy Impact *Update 4/4

Gary Sheffield had to leave the Tigers game against Kansas City early after trying to stretch a single into a double a tearing a tendon in his right ring finger sliding into second. To add insult to injury he was called out at second. The good news for you Tigers fans is that Sheffield won't wind up on the DL and should be good to go for week 2.

FANTASY IMPACT

Despite the gaudy numbers when healthy, these sort of fluky injuries have been piling up on Sheff over the last few seasons, and are one of the dangers owners take when drafting him. Early indications are that Sheff will at least be out for the weekend series against the Chicago White Sox.

The Tigers will know more once the swelling goes down, but it is now known that Sheff won't go on the Dl. Manager Jim Leyland said that Sheffield was unable to bend the finger and would not have been able to bat if his spot came up later in the game. Bench him for the weekend and keep a close watch on this situation going into week 2. We will have updates as we know more.
