An MRI revealed earlier in the week that Caron Butler's injured left hip has a tear in the joint rather than a simple strain as originally diagnosed. No surgery will be performed on the hip but rather Butler has been told to sinply rest and rehab. Butler has missed the last 11 games due to the hip injury and the latest news indicates that his return to the court is still a few weeks off.
Fantasy Impact
Andray Blatche, the Wizards' 2005 second round pick who made the leap from high school to the pros, will continue to see plenty of playing time in place of Caron Butler at forwrd. Blatche is a versatile fantasy option with multiple position eligibility (SF, PF, C) and the ability to contribute in numerous categories.
The third year forward is a solid rebounder and defender and can provide low double digit point totals making him a double-double threat on any given night. In Butler's absence, Blatche is averaging 10 points, 7 rebounds and over 1 block and steal a night in 13 February games. In addition, he has 5 double-doubles over that span.
Blatche has played a season high 29 minutes a game in February and as long as Butler remains out he will continue to see extended burn. When seeing consistent minutes, Blatche can help out a fantasy team in points, rebounds, blocks, steals and won't hurt you in FG%.
